The dawn of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in India has brought with it a wave of transformation across all academic disciplines. Among these, English literature and language pedagogy hold a distinctive position, as they are deeply connected to cultural identity, global communication, and critical thinking. The NEP era emphasizes not only skill development and employability but also creativity, inclusivity, and holistic education. It is in this context that this book, Reimagining English Literature and Language Pedagogy in the NEP Era: Curriculum, Innovation, and Practice, has been conceived.
This work seeks to explore how the teaching and learning of English can be realigned with the goals of NEP, ensuring that pedagogy is both globally relevant and locally rooted. By revisiting curriculum design, integrating Indian literatures, embracing multilingualism, and leveraging digital innovations, the chapters herein aim to bridge traditional practices with emerging pedagogical frameworks. The focus extends beyond linguistic competence to encompass inclusivity, interdisciplinary approaches, assessment reforms, and teacher training—dimensions that are integral to the NEP vision.
Each chapter is designed to provide not only theoretical insights but also practical applications for educators, researchers, and policymakers. From addressing the dynamics of global and local perspectives in literature to creating inclusive classrooms and rethinking assessment practices, the book endeavors to present a roadmap for reimagining English pedagogy in a rapidly evolving educational landscape.
