Learner-Centric and Holistic Education 

At the core of the National Education Policy lies a shift from teacher-driven instruction to learner-centred education. This section explains how holistic development-cognitive, emotional, physical, social, and ethical-is prioritized over narrow academic achievement. Education is envisioned as nurturing curiosity, creativity, and self-awareness alongside knowledge acquisition.   

Learner-centric and holistic education represents a fundamental reorientation of the educational process, placing the learner’s overall growth at the centre rather than treating education as a one-way transmission of information. Instead of viewing students as passive recipients of content, this approach recognizes them as active participants in their own learning journeys, shaped by individual abilities, interests, backgrounds, and emotional needs. Teaching strategies are therefore designed to adapt to learners, encouraging exploration, questioning, and reflective thinking rather than rote memorization. 

A holistic perspective expands the purpose of education beyond academic performance to include multiple dimensions of human development. Cognitive growth is integrated with emotional intelligence, physical well-being, social skills, and ethical understanding. Learners are encouraged to develop self-confidence, empathy, collaboration, and resilience alongside subject knowledge. By addressing these interconnected dimensions, education becomes a process of nurturing balanced individuals who can think critically, manage emotions, build healthy relationships, and act responsibly within society. 

This approach also emphasizes curiosity and creativity as essential outcomes of learning. When learners are given autonomy, choice, and opportunities for experiential learning, they are more likely to engage deeply with concepts and connect knowledge to real-life contexts. Project-based learning, interdisciplinary activities, and reflective practices help students understand not only what they are learning but why it matters. Such environments promote self-awareness and intrinsic motivation, enabling learners to take ownership of their growth. 

Ultimately, learner-centric and holistic education envisions schooling as a formative life process rather than a narrow academic exercise. By aligning intellectual development with emotional maturity, ethical values, and practical skills, this model prepares individuals to navigate complexity, adapt to change, and contribute meaningfully to both personal and social well-being.
