Chapter 7: Inclusive and Equitable Education for All

Authors

Synopsis

The Principle of Equity in NEP 2020
NEP stresses that quality education must be accessible to every child, irrespective of gender, socio-economic background, caste, religion, or geography. Equity is seen not as charity but as a right, ensuring that no learner is left behind.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 strongly emphasizes equity as a foundational principle in Indian education. It recognizes that quality education should not be viewed as a privilege or an act of charity, but as a fundamental right of every child. This principle ensures that learners from all sections of society-irrespective of their gender, caste, socio-economic background, religion, language, or geographical location-have equal opportunities to gain experience and succeed.

Equity in NEP 2020 goes beyond providing the same resources to all; instead, it focuses on need-based support to bridge gaps created by historical disadvantages. For example, children from marginalized groups or rural areas may require additional financial aid, infrastructure, language support, or teacher training interventions to achieve learning outcomes comparable to their peers.

Equity in NEP 2020 envisions a learning environment where no child is left behind, enabling every learner to achieve their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.
