The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 proposes a major transformation in the structure of higher education by promoting the development of multidisciplinary universities. Traditionally, many colleges and institutions in India focused on a single field-such as engineering, medicine, or arts-resulting in limited academic interaction across disciplines. NEP 2020 aims to replace this fragmented system with large, comprehensive institutions that offer a wide range of subjects under one campus.
A multidisciplinary university brings together diverse academic areas such as sciences, humanities, social sciences, arts, commerce, technology, and vocational studies. This integrated structure enables students to explore multiple fields of knowledge rather than remaining confined to one specialization.
